Introduction and Plot Summary: 

    "The Nanny" is an American sitcom that aired in the mid to late 90s on CBS. The show featured Fran Drescher who played Fran Fine a Nanny to a wealthy widow and his three young children. Fran Fine is seen as someone who has an eccentric style that goes out of the box and this makes her unique. I have chosen Season 1 Episode 20 "An Ode to Barbra Joan" for this assignment.

Description: 

    The Fashion in "The Nanny" is surrounded by Fran Fine and her day-to-day outfits. She is seen as someone who dresses not in societal norms. She very much stands out and her personality shines through what she wears. Fran is an outgoing and excitable person. In this episode, she is invited to go see a show and she steps out in this Bob Mackie white shimmery gown. This gown with the gloves and her neckpiece which is a statement on its own, comes together and makes her look amazing. This outfit had an impact on me as a viewer as "Wow, I want that dress!" even so that I looked for inspiration for something similar to wear to a birthday party that I had coming up. This has a great impact on a viewer to go out and purchase something because of what they watched on TV.

Analysis: 

    The interpretation from "The Nanny" that I took is that you can be fashionable outside of societal norms and have fun with the clothes you wear. Fran Fine shows us that we do not have to be inside the box, we can be outside! You can show your personality through your outfits. One concept from class is Media Effects. The media effect that I experienced was wanting to shop for outfits similar to what Fran Fine was wearing. At first, I did not know that I was experiencing the media effect through fashion, now that I am learning in this class, I can see that is exactly what was happening! 

Conclusion: 

    "The Nanny" series is lovable, fun and easy to watch because of its humor and flair. I definitely recommend others to sit and watch. Fran Fine is a character who is easy to love, she is funny and stylish and makes people laugh with her lines and witty self. I have enjoyed the show because of the humor but the fashion is definitely fun to experience.
